The MIT Office of Campus Planning is committed to revitalizing open spaces on campus and is currently exploring the renewal of the Eastman and McDermott Courts. The Eastman and McDermott Courts Renewal project aims to balance the needs of twenty-first-century open space users with improved ecological function and the mindful stewardship of this area’s twentieth-century modernist design heritage.
During the month of April 2024, the project team invited the MIT community to explore the revitalization potential for these open spaces. We sought to harness the creativity and ingenuity of our community to uncover fresh perspectives that can shape future uses of these spaces.
The findings from this outreach effort will inspire the design work ahead.
